PROF. KWAKU ADUTWUM AYIM BOAKYE

Vice Chancellor of the Cape Coast Technical University

Born in the Western Region of Ghana, Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye is the Second substantive Vice Chancellor of the Cape Coast Technical University. He has lived in Cape Coast since 1981.


He attended St. Augustine’s College where he obtained his “O” and “A” Level Certificates in 1992 and 1994 respectively after his primary education. He proceeded to the Alliance Francaise, Ghana for his Diplome d’etudes en Langue Francaise (ELF, ler degree). He, again went to Alliance Francaise, Ghana for his Diplome de Langue. Prof. Boakye proceeded to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) where he completed his B.Sc in Tourism Management in 1996. Prof. Boakye in the year 2000 did his MPhil in Tourism Management at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.


Prof. Boakye in 2004 graduated from the Georgia State University, Atlanta, USA, with a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Hospitality Operations in 2004. He holds a PhD. in Tourism Management from the University of Cape Coast Ghana, (2005 – 2008) (Ghana).


Professor Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye progressed academically when he joined the Department of Tourism in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as a Senior Research Assistant in 2002. He rose through the ranks of a Lecturer 2004, Senior Lecturer in 2009, an Associate Professor in 2013 and became a Professor with Ph.D in 2017.


Between 2014 and 2023, Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye served at UCC in numerous capacities in the Department of Tourism Management as a Head of Department, Vice Dean and Dean of International Relations.


While in UCC, Prof. Boakye served on several Boards and Committees, either as a Chairman or anmember. Notably amongst them are: University-wide Committee, Internationalization and Institutional Ranking Committee, Faculty of Social Sciences Adhoc Committee, Academic Board Subcommittee on review of Postdoctoral Policy, College Professors, Confucious Institute.


He was also engaged by the National Hospitality and Tourism Sector; National Project Technical Committee (Ghana International Traveler Survey and Domestic and Outbound Tourism Surveys). Others were the Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust, National Tourism Private Public Partnership Forum, National Tourism Policy Drafting Technical Committee, Additionally, Prof. Boakye engaged himself in consultancy services and had been a Lead

Researcher; National Tourism Single Window Feasibility Study, Commissioned by Ghana Authority and SGS Ghana, Team Leader, State of Ghana’s Tourism, Commissioned by Tourism Research and Advocacy Centre. He offers Consultancy Services to; Client Satisfaction Survey, by Nurses and Midwifery Council, Central Region, Evaluation of the activities of the Ghana Heritage

Conservation Trust. A survey undertaken by the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Commissioned by Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust. Monitoring report on the implementation of the UCC’s Collegiate System, Commissioned by the Vice-Chancellor, University of Cape Coast, Mapping Conflicts in Ghana, Commissioned by National Peace Council

and United Nations Development Programme, Accra.


Prof. Boakye has attended workshops, seminars, and conferences globally and has several Publications, Journals, and Edited Conference Papers to his credit. His research interests are: Tourism Management and Governance. He presented his Professorial Inaugural Lecture on July 13, 2022, on the theme: Tourism as a vehicle for Ghana’s development: “Mirage, Miracle or Myth”. He has also supervised thirty (30) postgraduate students in his field of study.


He is an external examiner to the following Universities; the Durban University of Technology (South Africa), University of Zambia, University of Gerona, Ho Technical University etc.


He is also an external Assessor to the underlisted universities: Ghana Telecom University College, Tamale Technical University, Accra Technical University, Koforidua Technical and the University of Professional Studies, Accra. He is a Christian and worships with the University Interdenominational Church (UIC), University of Cape Coast (UCC).


He is married to Mrs. Faustina Boakye and together they have two (2) adorable children: Nyamedor and Asempa.
